L’AVENIR
The rich history of the ’Avenir winery dates back to the late 1600s, when it was one of the first sites chosen for grape cultivation by the first European settlers of the new colony. The property was renamed L'Avenir (French for 'the future') in 1992 by Mauritian entrepreneur Mark Vihe, who left a sugar trading career in London to buy the farm. This was the beginning of a unique boutique winery. Vihe appointed a former pharmacist, François Naudé, as winemaker, who very quickly gained recognition especially for his distinctive wines from the Pinotage and Chenin Blanc grape varieties. In 2007, under Naudé, the current winemaker, Dirk Koetze, joined the farm after completing his higher education in viticulture at the University of Stellenbosch. The talented youngster helped focus L’Avenir on the highest quality parts of the vineyard, resulting in the now famous L’Avenir Single Block. It soon joined the family of some of the world's most recognized and awarded wines. https://www.lavenirestate.co.za/
